Experience

Studio Assistant, Shepherd University

Other upper classmen and I attended to the campus Drawing and Painting Studio

Duties Included:

  • Schedule Management: Maintain a consistent schedule for all studio assistants, including weekends when campus is open.

  • Studio Cleaning: Maintain healthy working habits of cleaning and workspace tidiness as it is a public space for all art students.

  • Workspace: I occupy a permanent space to display previous works, inspiration/references, working artist statements, and an easel for rotating works in progress for all classmen to see as inspiration or reference and to encourage a discipline of work ethic.

  • Mentorship: Spend time in the studio during other painting classes, I attend the underclassmen classes to give helpful critiques, techniques, and guidance for students.

  • Teachers Assistance: I help facilitate instructions to the students given by the professor. I assist in the set up for small demos to divide the class size into manageable groups to give hands-on help to students. I run errands for the professor around the Art Department building so the professor can focus on the class or help with other students working in the studio outside of class time.

July – August 2016

Painter, Jefferson County Arts Collective

I collaborated with a group to work on a mural in Charles Town, WV.

Duties included:

  • Painting

  • Workspace Tidiness: We were working in a members’ painting studio, so we had to keep areas separate and keep track of our supplies to not confuse them with the owners.

  • Prep-Work: I would arrive early to lay out the paint, palettes, brushes, and water cups to start working.

  • Leadership Skills: I would direct members to certain areas of the mural as to spread work evenly. When a member needed help on a section, I would give a critique or give guidance with techniques.

  • Time Management:  Maintained a consistent work ethic to meet group designated deadlines.
